Week Eight
So far this week has just been focused around honing our presentation skills, especially Tuesday. Rick encouraged us to try to convince and engage our audience. Anyone can do research on any of our projects, but what makes them special are the methods we use. Sure, we could have just followed through from research or articles in the past, but even the little modifications that we implemented are still worth noting. Other than that, he also advised us to maintain eye contact to the audience with a comfortable posture. After Rick advised us, we were assigned to make a list in Excel for new clients with their first name, last name, email address, phone number, street, and zip code. When that was done, we emailed the list to him and went on to prepare about six desktops for one of MyTek's clients. We had to update the computer first before downloading LogMeIn; this is so MyTek can easily access the client's computer to make any changes or guide them if they had a problem. Then, once it finished, we had to create a new user on the desktop and also enabled Microsoft Office with a key pass, both of which would be used by one of the client's employees. On Thursday, we went on to MyTek East and were allowed to use the whole day to work on our Senior Research Project. The wifi in the office was down, but at least I had my phone just in case I need to look something up.

Hi, it is Noah from Lutheran High School in Parker again. With all the work it seems you have been doing with presenting, any tips for people who are looking to get better at their presenting besides what is provided here? I am especially looking to get better with engaging an audience, is there anything special to that or am I just lame?
ReplyDeleteI'd say relax. Other people would be nervous too in your shoes. I know I am. Emit an amiable aura; if the majority of your audience seems comfortable and interested in your topic then you know you're doing well. An excellent attention grabber would be telling a story about yourself, something brief then tie it in with the topic at hand. Let's say you have a presentation in business and you used to put up lemonade stands in your neighborhood. If you used your experience as a story before you start, your audience will get to know you better and you won't be just another guy presenting. That's another thing: standing out. There's something to certainly keep in mind. There might be dozens of presentations like yours before, but what makes yours special than the rest. What makes it different.
DeleteI know I still have to work on the things I just typed up. Not everything can be perfect, but sometimes there's some form of advantage hidden in imperfection. Thanks for commenting and I apologize for not responding last time.
Great progress so far. I applaud your ability to present all this information steadily over and consistently over the months. Have you struggled with any procrastination so far? And I'm sorry your wifi died, how did you survive without it?
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading my comment,

Have I struggled with procrastination? I do recall an abstract I had to do right before flying back from Boston. Yeah, that was stressful, but I do thank my adviser and the SRP overseer for the patience. How did I survive without it? Every time I had to look up a price or research some parts, the least I had was my phone. I would say my wifi dying was more of an inconvenience. Thanks for writing, I apologize for not answering before.
